ullen sentalu

Lush gardens in between areas of display at the museum
 The View from Beukenhof Resto

Classic colonial interior at the Beukenhof Resto

The holidays are here and many of us in Indonesia tend to spend them at their home town. Mine is Jogja. So, incase you plan to head there, please do visit this place - a museum of Javanese art and culture, named Ullen Sentalu. The museum is located far north in the tourist area of Kaliurang where it holds carefully chosen eclectic artifacts. A tour guide will lead your group and explain the wonderful display. The building itself is like a castle and is dominated by the beautiful architecture that aims to harmonize human with nature. At the end of this tour, you will also reach Beukenhof Restaurant that is also located in the area where visitors can dine in a building designed in the style of colonial architecture. Also their boutique selling a variety of beautiful batik clothing and other lovely ornaments and handcrafts.

This was my second time to visit the museum and was surprised by how the area has expanded since the last time. I personally think this is a great place to visit with family. Even my toddler enjoyed it! The ticket entrance for adults is IDR25.000 and free for children under 5 years. Seriously, highly recommended. Above are a few pictures of only areas we were allowed to capture at the museum.

popperca

Popperca is a cool shop my sister and I found in Jogja. It sells cute creative stuff -from stuffed toys, hats, laptop holders, to tops and dresses- made from printed cotton fabric or left over material. I find this shop amusing! Located in the centre of Jogja, in a quiet neighborhood, this shop will make you want to stay longer. If you ever visit Jogja, you should stop by just to look around. But with everything cute and the reasonable prices there, you are bound to step out with something. The first picture is what I got: a shopping bag, two stuffed rabbits with attachable keyrings, and a small purse. Luv it! Popperca is located at Jl. Sagan III No.5 Jogja :)

old skool tin dining

Being the classic (or you may say old skool) me, these finds in Jogja last month were an excitement. These tin dinnerware are repros of the vintage tin plates that were popular in the year 1940 - 1970. You would most probably find a set of these plates in any home in Indonesia then. I didn't want to take my moms, so I thought I would go hunting to get my own set. I found mine at Toko Progo and there are soooo many varieties to chose from - the prints, size and functions. I took the cups picturing to drink tea out of, the bowl for mixing, the side plate to put on a table maybe, and the small bowls (that I assumed are supposed to be for washing hands in) for mixing icing. My mom gave me the-rolling-eye look for buying these, but she did give me a tip: don't drop them, unless you want a horrible black dent and chipped paint coming off.

off to jogja

I'm packing up to spend the next two weeks (minimum) at my parents home in Yogyakarta (Jogja). I'm really excited to meet the family and the four legged ones too :) And I have planned an itinerary including cooking, paddy field tracking and hunting vintage stuff. I do hope I get some goodies to post back. What I really hope too is that my luggage looked as pretty as the ones in the pictures. Sigh...
